MH3 Beginning Guide
General
Just a few general things about the village. You should read it smile.gif
The People In the Village
Guy with no shirt and is alway smoking. has a coat but isn't wearing it properly - Village Elder
The Village Elder just sits there really, telling you of important happenings within the village. Isn't as central as the village elder of pokke.
Chick in a Maid like costume, red hat & armband - Quest Giver
She'll be usually standing behind the counter next to the pier where you go to initiate quests. As the name suggests, she's the hands out quests to you.
Midget - Weaponsmith
He'll be standing towards the far right of the village, next to his furnace. he'll be holding a big hammer. You go to this guy for building/improving your weapons ands armour. you'll also go to him for gems.
Lady in the counter next to the Weaponsmith - Arms Seller
She'll be standing behind a counter next to the weapon smith. Instead of building your armour/weapons you go to her to simply buy them. keep in mind that the stuff she sells is usually pretty poor compared to what you can make at the time.
Slenderish lady - Item Seller
She'll be standing behind a counter down from the quest giver. don't mistake her for the old brown fat lady though tongue.gif she just sells general goods like potions, cold/hot drinks, picks, bugnets e.t.c
Guy standing ontop of a Hugeass box - Tally Guy
Remember that guy in mhfreedom -> freedom unite who you went to, to improve your farm and exchange pokke points with? will this is mh3's version of the guy. except with quite a few changes.
Whats Where in the village
Your Room
Next to the stairway, its got red blinds/overhangs with yellow stripes. go here to save, put items in your box and change equipment. you can also go there to order food from the felynes.
The Quest Pier
To the far left of the village, next to the quest giver. entrance to it is a big archway.
The Mountains
Before i revised this, i called this the farm - but i found out that there is an actual farm in this game tongue.gif so i'll call it the Mountains from now on. Its to the very right of the village, it'll bring you to the Mountains, its basically the very first environment you do quests in this game.
The Farm
Similar to the pokke farm but more alike to the farm in MHFO, its down from the tally guy. entrance is also an archway. albeit a dinky one.

The Tutorial
First Off, explore the town a bit. talk to anyone with a yellow text box above their head.
After you've done that head to the Mountains. its to the very right of the town if you didnt read above.
Either the elder or someone who i'm guessing is the ex hunter will pop up and show a few things. no need to worry.
Kill a Aptonoth (one of them big ol' dinosaurs) and carve some raw meat off them. then head to the camp place on the minimap. next to area 2.
Talk to the guy in the camp place 3 times, your Raw Meat count should decrease by 1.
Return to town. now what he wanted was for you to cook some steak.
Talk to the elder. he should give you some money and the spit.
Go back to the "Mountains"
Pull out the spit and cook away, If you dont have any raw meat kill some more aptonoth's.
Now go to Area 6, im pretty sure this isn't unlocked at the very beginning so it will be a new place you see on the minimap. you'll see a little fmv of this monster who looks like a velociraptor(Jagi) or something.
Kill these guys until you have killed 5 or you get 30 points. there'll be a little counter at the bottom.
Return to town, look for the guy who i called the Guild Tally Dude. he should have a yellow box on top of his head.
Talk to him, select option 2. get your rewards & points. Then select option 4. a big stamp thing should show up after clicking a few times.
Now talk to the weapon smith, then the elder, they both should have yellow boxes on top of their heads.. The weaponsmith wants a Iron Ore (i guess?) so you go to the elder for some money and a pickaxe tongue.gif
Now head back to the "farm" and head to area 4. Careful around here as there are (i'm assuming) Khezu Whelps around in this area.
Explore a bit and you'll find a mining point. mine till you cant or if you really want leave after the first one. You just wont get as many ore's
Return to town, talk to the weaponsmith and choose the last option. Another big stampy thing.
Now a few people should have yellow boxes on them. talk to them all. Return to the "farm" and head to area 11.
Kill a Big Fish thing , both if you really want. and return to town.
Talk to everyone and by now you should be able to talk to the Quest Giver for the beginning quests smile.gif

Questing!
Basic overview of what you need to do and how to rank up. (Thanks to G0dlike for the quests). A bit of color coding here, Green are the quests i did. a " * " next to the quest means there is something you have to watch out for.
1* Quests
Now there are a 6 quests here in the 1*. all pretty easy. just the one you have to watch out for. to unlock the urgent you need to do 4 of the 6 quests. The quests are as follows;
Gather 3 White Mushrooms
This one is pretty straight forward, just gather 3 white mushrooms
Deliver 2 Kelbi Horns
Once Again, pretty straightforward, kill the deer looking things. when they are stunned/on the floor, carve them. after that simply kill them and carve them again if you wish
Catch and Deliver 3 Goldfish
i'll stop commenting on the straightforward ones from now on .
Slay Jagiinosu
Just in case you didnt know, the Jaginosu are found along side the raptor (Jagi) things. They're bigger, tougher and deal more damage, The Jagi's Female Counterpart tongue.gif. you should be able to tell the difference off the bat. Kill these guys until you get the mission clear.
Deliver 3 Monster Livers *
Now this is very similar to the mhf/2/u quest "The Sinking Feeling" where you encounter the Tigrex. With this one, you'll have to go to the underwater areas and kill lapras like things. Im pretty sure they are Rudros but don't quote me on that. Kill them until you get 3 Monster Livers. There's a catch with this though mission though, you'll run into something called the Lagiacrus. Big nasty thing that shoots electricity everywhere. as soon as you see this guy, RUN. you wont stand a chance against him the first time round.
Scavenge the ocean floor for 8 Crimson Coral
-
The Urgent! - Slay 6 Rudros
Pretty simple, just kill 6 of the things. you'll find them in the underwater areas.
Congrats you are now onto the 2* missions

Tangling with giant beasts in Monster Hunter online serves a number of purposes. First, and probably most importantly, it can be a lot of fun. Second, it gets you nice items you can use later on to build new weapons and armor. Third, it's a lot easier to kill a boss with four players running around instead as opposed to offline play where it's just you and an AI companion named Cha-Cha. And fourth, it can be a cool social experience, giving you a sense of satisfaction gained through proper teamwork, planning, and execution. While you can play Monster Hunter Tri as a single-player game, its online setup allows for four to join together and kill stuff. Some bosses you simply can't face if you're playing offline, so if you want to see everything the game has to offer, you'll want to hook up your Wii online and hunt with other players. Before reading this, if you aren't familiar with the franchise, you might also want to check out our previous Monster Hunter Tri coverage that talks about the basics of the game.
To actually meet up with others, you'll need to take a few steps. When loading up the game, you're given two options. You can enter the Village, which serves as the quest and vendor hub for all your single-player missions, or you can check out the City, which is the entry point for the online mode. The nice thing is your character progress is global, so if you've spent 50 hours building up your offline character, you can just bring them into the City and still have access to all the same gear and items. Then whatever new items and money you pick up while playing online can be brought back into the single player game.
When you actually load into the City, you'll find there's quite a bit to do. As far as the process goes, you'll need to pick a server when first loading in, at which point you're dropped down in an area called a City Gate. Here you'll find a number of NPCs who can give you some helpful information regarding what to do. Perhaps most importantly you'll find a large bulletin board that you can use to find a specific City you want load into. The City is actually just another word for the party you want to join, which has an upper limit of four players. If you're just starting out and don't have anyone on your in-game friends list, then you can customize your search for cities to join based on a number of labels. These labels can be 'Casual play', 'Rare Material Search', 'Earning Money', 'Just a Quest or Two', and 'Everyone Welcome', among others. This can help direct you to the newbie friendly areas if you're not really sure what's going on.

Teaming up to take down a giant fish.
If you don't feel like joining any of those Cities or just want to head into one by yourself, you can go ahead and create one and assign your own label. You'll then load into the City, where you'll find a whole bunch of NPC vendors and quest givers that offer a variety of services, many of which differ from those in the single-player Village. The first thing you'll want to do is head over to the Guild desk where you can register yourself as a hunter. You can then access the quest list, which has more quests than the offline version, and also more challenging ones. The online portion isn't meant to be a training mode, so if you really don't know what you're doing, it's best to spend a while playing solo offline before heading in here. For instance, you can hunt a Qurupeco and Royal Ludroth in the first rank of quests online, whereas offline those quests don't open up until later on.
These challenges are meant to be taken on as a team, and if you're in a City with others, you'll see them walking around the vendor area. If you run up and select the other players, you can send along a friend request, send private messages, or use an in-game keyboard interface to type out what you want to say into a general chat window seen by the whole four person party. If you're wondering whether or not you need to know everyone's friend code to get a game going, don't worry. This uses a totally different system for online social interaction specific to Monster Hunter. I was able to just jump into a game without anyone on my friends list at all. You can always request people join your friends list, but it's not required to get into a party. You're free to browse the City list and join whichever one you like. Before going online you'll have a character name and a unique number code assigned to your Monster Hunter profile. Once you find people you like or know your friends' info, you can then search for them using a name or code search, or just check your friends list if you've already added them.
Once a quest is selected, the other players in a party can then run up to a bulletin board near the quest giver and choose to join up, at which point everyone needs to confirm they're ready before heading into the field. Chances are members of your party will need to do some preparatory work before combat begins, running around the sections of the City to visit vendors to buy healing items, whetstones, and upgrading and switching out armor and weapons as necessary. While waiting, you can choose to arm-wrestle another at a barrel near the Guild quest giver, but a better idea would be to make sure you're prepared. Having the right components for a quest is just as important as knowing your enemy in Monster Hunter, and in the City you'll find vendors who will combine items for you, sell you basic items and components, exchange items for others, and even come up with new furniture designs for your living space. Since your item box here is the same as the offline one, you can store whatever you pick up and access it online or off, which is certainly convenient considering the huge number of components you'll eventually amass.
Assuming you're not a jerk, expect your friends list to gradually grow. When opened, you can view each friend's current status and warp directly to them if they're online. This should make it easy for groups of friends to locate each other to start questing. It does seem like it's best to quest with people you know, since not everyone has Wii Speak or a desire to chat regularly, and you can never be sure if someone's just joining up to screw around. If someone does have Wii Speak hooked up, you'll be able to see it with an onscreen icon, and you can enable or disable mic chat as well as voice volume.
Photo
You'll find a lot more content to tackle online.
In terms of loot distribution, competition shouldn't be all that intense over drops. Your enemies in Monster Hunter don't drop gear. So, if you wipe out a Barroth, it's not going to drop a sword and a nice piece of chest armor. Instead, it must be carved up for components. Once enough components are collected, you then turn them in at smiths who fashion them into armor and weapons for you. Since everyone can carve the corpses of the fallen in Monster Hunter, you don't have to worry about someone ninja-looting (stealing items), exiting and disappearing from existence with all the best stuff, leaving the rest of the party fuming and cursing. You'll get your fair share as long as you stick around for the kill, and then you get your quest rewards on top of that.
Considering all you can do online in Monster Hunter Tri, what's offered here should be unique for Wii owners. It's also free for Wii users outside of Japan, so that's a nice bonus. Between boosting your online ranking to unlock new quests, collecting items to get better gear, and all the other distractions like furniture creation and title unlocks, it seems like players will have plenty to do when Monster Hunter Tri is released later this month.
